Our chief photographer was honored with the prestigious title of Master Photographer Of The Year 2009 (Far East). Established in 1952, the Master Photographers Association is the UK's only trade body dedicated exclusively to full-time professional commercial photographers.

EMO Studios

Indeed, the story behind our studio's name may seem unconventional, but it holds a special significance to us. Allow me to share the tale, as recounted by our chief photographer.

Back in the nineties, we harbored a vision and a conviction: to pursue photography as a career, we needed to embody both artistic expression and technical proficiency. We sought a harmonious balance between the creative and the technical, akin to the concept of Yin and Yang. In pursuit of this equilibrium, a term emerged—a term that encapsulated the fusion of artistic soul and engineering spirit within photography. This term, this name, "Emotionally Engineered," resonated with us as budding photographers.

Fast forward to 2006, when we sought to register our first domain. We realized that "Emotionally Engineered" was quite a mouthful. After exploring various alternatives, a friend suggested, "Hey, why not use the word 'emo' for short?" Upon a quick online search, finding nothing objectionable about the term, we thought, "Why not?" And thus, EMO STUDIOS was born.

Today, whenever we introduce our studio, it elicits a grin from those who hear it. Yes, it may sound amusing, but it embodies precisely what we aspire to be. It encapsulates over a decade of dedication and pursuit of our artistic and technical ideals. And yes, our clients certainly remember us by this distinctive name.

I have a great time learning basic photography from my mentor and friend Alex Siew. A warm, friendly & knowledgeable instructor. He challenges us to think out of the box during his classes and field trips. Award Winning Team

Mr. Alex Siew leads our team as the chief photographer at EMO Studios. He embarked on his photography journey with the Ministry of Defence (Singapore) and later worked as a photojournalist at Singapore Press Holdings before establishing EMO Studios. Over the years, Alex has earned numerous accolades for his outstanding work.

Among these awards is one his team received at the SOAA 2008 for a Renault commercial shoot. The following year, Alex was honored with two prestigious awards from The Master Photographers Association (MPA) for Professional Photographers, based in the United Kingdom. His photograph titled 'Inner Strength' won in the Contemporary Portrait Category, while his entry 'Hero' received high commendation in the same category.

In recognition of his exceptional talent and contributions, Alex was named Master Photographer of the Year 2009 by the MPA.
